How does it work?

For a fixed annual sum, a professional Librarian - employed as part of the SchoolShelf team - will be based on a weekly basis in your School Library. They will oversee the management of the Library, including leading reading sessions and training Pupil Librarians if required.

How much does it cost?

The annual cost of the 'Librarian in School' service is dependent upon the amount of time you require a Librarian on-site. Options start at less than the cost of a TLR2 allowance. Fill out the form below to obtain a quotation for your school.

How frequently can our School have a Librarian?

As frequently as you wish! The minimum provision is 1/2 day a week, although you can opt to have a Librarian on-site for every day of the week if you would prefer.

What will a Librarian do on a weekly basis?

• Oversee the strategic management of the Library

• Recruit, train and support a Pupil Librarian team

• Run a weekly book club/library club

• Catalogue, classify and prepare books for your Library 

• Make recommendations for Library stock purchases (if required, our Librarian can manage a Library budget)

• Organise reading for pleasure events, including World Book Day and National Poetry Day events

• Support teaching staff in the delivery of Library Lessons

Are Librarians DBS checked? 

All of our Librarians are DBS checked. All of our applicants are required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers. As our Librarians work in school and are considered ‘regulated activity’, a check through the Disclosure and Barring Service, including the children’s barred list, will be made. All of our team are familiar with and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection and promoting the welfare of students.
